As in most international schools, many students at Wroclaw International School do not speak English as their first language and require support to foster their acquisition of English. All teachers recognize this factor and address the differing needs of our diverse student population. Throughout the school year, students receive ESL instruction and support in the mainstream curriculum based on their individual needs. WIS also provides a comprehensive and dynamic ESL programme, allowing children to succeed. This programme is provided and supported by all teachers. This is delivered both within the regular classroom as well as in pull-out sessions.
It is helpful for your child to understand a few basic words of English in order to follow simple instructions and feel a bit more comfortable and secure during the first days and weeks with us. Research shows that the easiest way to acquire another language is when a student is motivated to learn the language (finds it interesting and meaningful), when there are enough competent users of the language around them willing to communicate, and when opportunities to communicate in the target language are frequent. All these conditions are provided at WIS.
